Fantasy Alert: Austin Ekeler Ruled Out for Commanders vs. Cardinals with Concussion

Doric SamSep 25, 2024

Fantasy football managers who have Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler on their rosters will have to adjust their lineups in Week 4.

Per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn announced on Wednesday that Ekeler will miss Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a concussion.

Ekeler got off to a strong start in Washington's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, breaking a 7-7 tie in the second quarter with a 24-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately, he was ruled out for the second half of the game with a concussion and finished with three carries for 35 yards and a score while adding two catches for 22 yards upon exiting. The Commanders went on to earn a 38-33 win to improve to 2-1.

A seven-year veteran who previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers, Ekeler signed with Washington on a two-year deal in March. Over his first three games with the team, he has 83 rushing yards and a score on 13 carries and nine catches on nine targets for 121 yards.

Unlike his tenure with the Chargers, Ekeler isn't being counted on to be the Commanders' lead back. Third-year speedster Brian Robinson Jr. leads Washington with 45 carries for 206 yards while adding two touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is known for his dual-threat abilities, leads the team with three rushing touchdowns and racked up 171 yards on 38 carries.

Still, Ekeler was a key piece of Washington's offense thanks to his prowess in both the run and passing attacks. Fantasy football managers will certainly miss his production while he's sidelined.

Without Ekeler in the lineup, veteran running back Jeremy McNichols will see more action as Robinson's backup against the Cardinals.
