Backyard Baseball '97: Release Date, Trailer Revealed for Classic Version on Steam
After the Backyard Sports series was confirmed to return earlier this summer, Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios have announced a new version of Backyard Baseball '97 is going to be available on Steam on Oct. 10.
Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios announced the release date along with a trailer for the new game on Wednesday.
Playground Productions announced the return of the Backyard series on Aug. 20 with a teaser trailer for a new baseball game, but there were no specific details about a release date at that point.
The teaser included several Backyard Sports legends, including Pablo Sanchez, Stephanie Morgan, Achmed Khan, Pete Wheeler and Kiesha Phillips.
Backyard Baseball '97 dropping on Oct. 10 marks the 27th anniversary of the original game's release date. It was the first game that helped launch the entire series, which grew to include soccer, football, basketball, hockey and skateboarding.
The series has been on hiatus since 2015 as the rights to the franchise have bounced around.
Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce talked about the series earlier this year, wondering if anyone knew who held the rights so he could look into purchasing them and relaunch the franchise.
Playground Productions is planning to expand the franchise beyond video games to include movies and television shows featuring the Backyard characters.
Steam is available on Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Backyard Baseball '97 can be added to your wish list so it is available as soon as it is released.
