Red Sox to Unveil New City Connect Uniform for 2025 MLB Season, Keep Yellow Jerseys

Say goodbye to the Boston Red Sox's blue alternate jerseys and hello to a new City Connect uniform.

Red Sox chief marketing officer, Adam Grossman, told Chris Cotillo of Mass Live on Tuesday the team will retire the blue jerseys and turn the Boston Marathon-inspired yellow and blue ones into a core uniform starting in 2025.

As a result, there will also be a new City Connect uniform next year since the yellow and blue ones will now be considered core.

"MLB allows Clubs who have a current City Connect jersey the ability to redesign it after several seasons," Grossman said. "Given the popularity of our yellow uniforms with our players and fans, we have elected to keep it as a core uniform offering for the foreseeable future. We will unveil a City Connect 2.0 uniform in 2025 and will no longer wear our blue alternate jerseys."

As Cotillo explained, Major League Baseball and Nike put rules in place starting last year that limit teams to four regular uniforms and a City Connect one. Boston has used its home whites, alternate home reds, road grays and the alternate road blues as the four main ones.

The current City Connect yellow jerseys will simply move into the abandoned core slot left by the departure of the blue ones.

Boston is 35-13 overall since 2021 and 8-6 in 2024 wearing the yellow City Connect jerseys.

Cotillo noted the starting pitcher used to decide what uniforms the team would wear on a given day, but manager Alex Cora instead opted for a more consistent schedule this season with white jerseys worn for home games outside of Fridays (red alternates) and Saturdays (yellows).

If the Red Sox were on the road for Friday games, they would wear the blue alternates.

They will be looking for a better showing next season with a new set of uniforms.

Boston is 79-78 and eliminated from American League East contention and on the fringe of wild-card contention. It is 3.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals for the final wild-card spot with five games remaining in the regular season and would need to leapfrog the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins as well with a miracle finish.

It appears as if the Red Sox are going to miss the postseason for the third year in a row, which is a far cry from when they won four World Series titles from 2004 to 2018.

Perhaps a new set of uniforms and some well-timed offseason additions will set Boston up for more success in 2025.
