Jayden Daniels 'Grew Up' in Commanders' Win vs. Burrow, Bengals, Terry McLaurin Says

The Washington Commanders are feeling great about their rookie quarterback after Jayden Daniels racked up 254 yards passing, 39 yards rushing and accounted for three touchdowns in Monday's 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaking to reporters after the victory, Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin said Daniels "grew up" over the course of the game.

"I'm so excited for him because now as a rookie, once you see those throws, you get more confidence. And I think his confidence is just going through the roof right now," McLaurin added.

Daniels is leading the NFL's most unstoppable offense over the past two weeks. The Commanders have scored on 13 consecutive drives excluding two that ended with a kneel down.

If you go back to the final drive in Week 1 when Daniels ran for a one-yard touchdown, the Commanders' streak of consecutive scoring drives excluding kneel downs is at 14.

Perhaps the most impressive drive of Daniels' young career was the last one on Monday night. The Bengals cut the deficit to 31-26 with 9:42 remaining.

Starting on their own 30-yard line, the Commanders took 7:32 off the clock. Daniels converted a fourth-and-4 from the Bengals' 39 to keep the drive going. Three plays later, he connected with McLaurin on third-and-7 for a 27-yard touchdown to seal the win.

McLaurin finished with six catches for 100 yards and a score. It was just his second game with at least 100 receiving yards since the start of the 2023 season.

Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes, setting a new NFL rookie record for completion percentage in a game with at least 20 attempts.

Since losing the opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Commanders have put up 781 yards and 48 first downs in their past two games. Daniels is leading the league in completion percentage (80.3), ranks second on the team in rushing yards (171), has accounted for five touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception in 76 attempts.

The Commanders bet big on Daniels as their quarterback of the future by using the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft after his Heisman-winning season at LSU.

It's still early, but it certainly seems as if Daniels is making Washington's investment look like a brilliant move. He will look to extend the team's winning streak to three games on Sunday when the Commanders play the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.
