Americans Seek a Repeat

The United States remained unbeaten on home soil in 2022, besting the International Team at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Then-rookie Scottie Scheffler led the USA, followed closely by Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

Scheffler's inconsistent play in the event (0-3-1) begs the question: If he struggles again on this stage, can the international team take advantage and earn its first victory since 1998?

There are plenty of questions on that side of the competition, too, with no obvious player to oppose Scheffler or Schauffele. While the Americans have one or two players they can confidently count on, the international team has a handful of veteran players who can play well but are not sure-things.

However, Scheffler is a better player than he was the last time he was at the forefront of the U.S. team. He won the his first FedEx Cup and became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to tally seven Tour victories.

The 28-year-old is at the peak of his career and unlikely to replicate his debut performance in the Presidents Cup.

The Americans are the favorites, with greater depth on the roster than their counterparts. Max Homa was 4-0 in 2022 and Cantlay and Schauffele both hold 6-3 records in previous event play.

Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott and Jason Day all have plenty of experience but also losing records in the event. South Koreans Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im are the only members of the international team with winning records.

On paper, the Americans should roll to their 10th consecutive Presidents Cup victory.
