NFL Rumors: Bryce Young Open to Trade or Fulfilling Rookie Contract with Panthers

Jack MurraySep 20, 2024

Bryce Young appears to be open to a fresh start.

The 2023 No. 1 pick was benched by the Carolina Panthers following the team's 0-2 start to the 2024 season. Following this decision, David Newton of ESPN reported that Young is "open" to wherever he future lies, whether it is in Carolina or elsewhere.

"A source close to Young said the quarterback is "open to anything'' as it pertains to staying with the Panthers through the end of his rookie contract or being traded to another team," Newton wrote.

Dan Graziano of ESPN speculated that the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks should not be ruled out as potential suitors.

This may not come anytime soon, however, as Panthers head coach Dave Canales said on Wednesday that a Young trade is "not something that we're considering," per Newton.

While Young may be open to whatever happens, his current mindset is to focus on the present and let the Panther's decision-makers help the team win.

"I'm a day-by-day kind of person,'' Young said, per Newton. "I've talked about that consistently. Big picture stuff, that's out of my hands. That's organizational stuff, for the people upstairs. I'm super grateful to be part of the team, with our organization. I want to help in every way I can.''

Young has thrown for just 245 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions thus far in 2024 while Carolina's offense has produced just 13 points. The only touchdown did come off of a Young three-yard run but he has failed to elevate his game in his second season.

His rookie year also left much to be desired. He compiled a 2-14 record as the starter while throwing for 2,877 yards with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Veteran Andy Dalton will take over as the starter for now and will hope to get the Panthers offense to a more acceptable state. This could pave the way for Young to return at some point, but it also could signal that his future may come somewhere else.

The Panthers will look to claim their first win in 2024 in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
