Texans' Brevin Jordan Posts on Playing Game with Torn ACL: 'We Modern Day Gladiators'

Zach BacharSep 19, 2024

Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan reflected on playing the entirety of the team's 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday before learning that he suffered a torn ACL during the game.

"It's what we do," Jordan wrote in a post on X. "We modern day gladiators. I played the whole game, not knowing which play or when, but with a torn acl and didn't even know until the next day. I love this football s--t so much bro. Everything about it. And I'm looking forward to coming back better then ever."

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Thursday that the 24-year-old will miss the rest of the 2024 season due to the injury.

The former fifth-round pick was behind tight end Dalton Schultz on Houston's depth chart, but the pair shared the field several times throughout the past two seasons. Jordan recorded two catches for seven yards through two games in 2024.

He racked up 17 receptions for 219 yards in 2023, making a large impact during the Texans' victory over the Cleveland Browns in the wild card round of the playoffs. Near the start of the second quarter, Jordan hauled in a short pass from C.J. Stroud and took the ball 76 yards for a touchdown.

Stroud discussed Jordan's impact on the field and in the locker room after his torn ACL.

"If you want to talk about the heartbeat of this team, it's just who he is," he said (h/t Schultz). "Somebody who loves hard and he loves everyone in this building."

The Texans signed 26-year-old Irv Smith Jr. to their practice squad in the wake of the injury, but Schultz should still be the No. 1 tight end target for Stroud. Fourth-round rookie Cade Stover could also see an increased role in Houston's offense moving forward.
