Video: Chiefs' Chris Jones Says He Wants NFL to Give Him Half-Sack vs. Bengals Back

Zach BacharSep 19, 2024

Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones wasn't happy with the NFL's decision to remove his credit for a half-sack during the team's 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

"Out of my nine years of playing, I've never seen it," Jones told reporters on Thursday. "I've never seen it happen. It never happened to me, it was a first for me. I was traumatic and destroyed by it. Very emotional, as you can see on X."

The 30-year-old previously expressed his disappointment with the decision to give credit in multiple posts on X.

In the second quarter of Kansas City's win, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was sacked on third down and Cincinnati was forced to settle for a field goal in the red zone.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Chiefs pass-rusher George Karlaftis was awarded a full sack after Jones' half-sack was removed. The five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle revealed that Karlaftis promised to treat him to dinner in order to make up for the stat change.

However, Jones had a change of heart on Thursday.

"I don't want the dinner, I just want my half-sack, okay? Keep the dinner, I don't want the dinner," he joked with reporters. "Just give me my half-sack back, I worked for it."

Jones added that he's trying his best not to get fined as he campaigns for the half-sack to be given back to him, explaining that it's something he hasn't seen before throughout his nine-year career.

He's developed from a promising pass-rusher into a cornerstone of Kansas City's defense over the past few years, racking up 26 sacks during his previous two seasons. He also took down Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson during the Chiefs' victory in Week 1.

While Jones wants his half-sack from Sunday returned, he'll certainly record much more over the course of the year.
