WNBA Playoff Bracket 2024: Latest Postseason Picture and Clinching Scenarios

Joe TanseySep 17, 2024

Five WNBA games on Tuesday and Thursday will provide clarity in the hunt for the final of the eight playoff positions.

The Washington Mystics, Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream are all locked at 13-25 heading into the final two days on the WNBA regular-season schedule.

Atlanta hosts Chicago in the most important game on Tuesday's slate. After that, all three challengers for the No. 8 seed face tough regular-season finales.

The top-seeded New York Liberty will play a deciding role in determining the No. 8 seed since they face Washington on Tuesday and Atlanta on Thursday.

Updated Standings

1. New York (31-7)

2. Minnesota (29-9)

3. Connecticut (27-11)

4. Las Vegas (25-13)

5. Seattle (24-14)

6. Indiana (20-19)

7. Phoenix (18-20)

8. Washington (13-25)

9. Chicago (13-25)

10. Atlanta (13-25)

11. Dallas (9-30)

12. Los Angeles (7-31)

Washington, Chicago and Atlanta are all targeting a two-win week to be in the best position possible to claim the No. 8 seed.

Atlanta hosts Chicago and then visits New York, the Sky visit the Connecticut Sun after their trip to Atlanta and the Mystics host the Liberty and Fever this week.

Washington enters the week with the edge over Chicago and Atlanta and it is the only one of the three sides that does not have to travel this week.

Tuesday's Chicago-Atlanta loser will be a clear disadvantage going into Thursday, and if Washington fails to beat the Liberty on Tuesday, the Sky-Dream winner could be the No. 8 seed.

The Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm are still battling for the No. 4 seed. They play each other on Tuesday night in Seattle.

An Aces victory secures the No. 4 seed, while a Storm win will take the race for the No. 4 seed down to Thursday. Seattle visits the Phoenix Mercury and the Aces host the Dallas Wings to conclude the regular season.

The Liberty need to win one of their final two games, or for the Minnesota Lynx to drop a game to lock into the No. 1 seed.

Minnesota needs to win one of its final two contests to remain clear of the Sun for the No. 2 seed. The same can be said about Connecticut and holding on to the No. 3 seed.

The WNBA postseason begins on Sunday with four best-of-three first-round series. The semifinals and final are best-of-five series.
