Colorado's Shedeur Sanders Talks Not Shaking CSU QB's Hand in Video: I'm a Human, Too

Scott PolacekSep 16, 2024

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders turned heads Saturday when he refused to shake the hand of Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi after the Buffaloes' 28-9 win, but he provided some insight into his mindset about the situation during a behind-the-scenes clip published Monday.

While he was somewhat tongue-in-cheek and joking about the situation (nine-minute mark), he did say "I'm a human, too" after a comment about letting people talk about his family.

The interaction occurred after the game when Fowler-Nicolosi approached Sanders and extended his hand. However, the Colorado star did not shake hands and instead said, "you were talking that s--t on Instagram" and "you can't f--k with me" (36:30 mark).

Fowler-Nicolosi then walked away and said, "keep talking."

Sanders wasn't the only member of his family who felt the disrespect from the Rams.

"Wonderful game," head coach Deion Sanders told reporters in his postgame press conference. "Personal game. Heartfelt game. Emotional game. They kinda make it like that. The disrespect was uncalled for during the week. We knew coming into the game it would be a bit personal. I just pray that our kids would never act in that matter cause y'all would have a field day with it."

Colorado State ultimately didn't offer much of a challenge for the Buffaloes.

Sanders went 36-of-49 for 310 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions, and the offensive line played much better than it did during a blowout loss to Nebraska the previous week. The defense also forced four turnovers, and it was a welcome bounce-back performance for the Buffaloes ahead of Big 12 play.

Things figure to be more difficult during the conference slate, which begins Saturday against Baylor.

Colorado went 3-0 in nonconference play before going 1-8 in Pac-12 competition last season and will look to avoid a similar fate in the Big 12 in 2024.
