NFL Coach Hypes Saints for Pacing Historic Teams Who 'Threw the F--k Out of the Ball'

Zach BacharSep 16, 2024

The New Orleans Saints' offense has been immensely productive through the first two weeks of the 2024 season, leaving a strong impression on opposing coaches.

"These guys are producing like the '07 Patriots and the '99 Rams, but those teams threw the f--k out of the ball," one defensive coach said about the Saints, via Mike Sando of The Athletic. "These guys are running it. It's only two games, but damn."

New Orleans followed up a 47-10 Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers with a 44-19 blowout victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Saints' scoring average is over 10 points higher than the Arizona Cardinals, the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL, through two games.

New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has helped New Orleans' offense thrive, scoring on each of the team's first 15 possessions to begin the season.

The Saints' rushing attack has been the driving force behind their early success, recording over 180 yards on the ground as a team in both of their wins. Alvin Kamara thrived against Dallas, racking up 115 yards on 20 carries. He also rushed for three touchdowns, adding a fourth score as a receiver.

New Orleans hasn't solely relied on contributions on the ground, though. Derek Carr has thrown for 443 yards and five touchdowns compared to just one interception through his first two starts. This included an impressive 70-yard throw to Rashid Shaheed that resulted in a score in the first quarter against the Cowboys.

While it may be early to compare the Saints to some of the top offenses in NFL history such as the 1999 Los Angeles Rams and 2007 New England Patriots, New Orleans is still worthy of praise after a pair of dominant wins to open the year.
