Jones' agent confirmed that the legendary actor died on Monday. Michigan posted the pregame hype video for football games narrated by Jones that same day.

The hype video has been played before Wolverines home games since 2015. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh told Alejandro Zuniga of 247Sports in January that he wrote the script for the video with his dad, Jack Harbaugh, in 2015 and they got Jones to narrate it.

Harbaugh posted a message on X about Jones' impact on his life.

Appearing on WXYT-FM in September 2015 (h/t Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press), Harbaugh compared hearing Jones in the booth recording the voiceover to watching Baseball Hall of Famer Willie Mays take batting practice:

"Just getting to talk to him on the phone was amazing (initially). Actually, some friends who went to Michigan and work at ESPN suggested the idea of videotaping Mr. Jones in the segment. It was an amazing experience to watch Mr. James Earl Jones do the voiceover piece. It must have been what it was like to watch Willie Mays take batting practice, back in that time."

Jones' voice is one of the most iconic in the history of filmed entertainment. He is best known as the voice of Darth Vader in seven live-action Star Wars movies and Mufasa in The Lion King.

The Mississippi native is one of 27 people in history to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony). He received an honorary Academy Award in 2011; won two Primetime Emmy awards, both in 1991; a Grammy in 1977; and three Tony awards.
