LIV's Jon Rahm Plans to Play in DP World Tour Events to Retain Ryder Cup Eligibility

Jon Rahm has his eyes on the 2025 Ryder Cup, and he wants to play in three DP World Tour events this season to remain eligible.

ESPN's Mark Schlabach reported Wednesday the LIV golfer's plan is to participate in the Spanish Open on Sept. 26-29, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Oct. 3-6 and the Andalucia Masters on Oct. 17-20.

Doing so would mean Rahm met the DP World Tour's eligibility requirements and set him up to be a potential captain's pick from European team captain Luke Donald.

However, there could be an issue because Rahm has not paid the fines he would be facing for playing in the LIV Golf League without a conflicting-event release.

"Well, I'm entered into the tournament," Rahm told reporters Wednesday when discussing the upcoming Spanish Open. "We entered a long time ago. Whether they let me play or not is a different thing. I'm not a big fan of the fines. I think I've been outspoken about that. I don't intend to pay the fines, and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen."

Those could be important discussions for Team Europe's ultimate chances, as Rahm is a Ryder Cup veteran and has proven himself as one of the best golfers in the world for extended stretches of his career.

He was on Team Europe last year when it defeated the United States in Rome and earned some revenge from its blowout loss to the Americans in 2021. Rahm's singles match against Scottie Scheffler on the final day was one of the most memorable of last year's tournament, and the two greats ended up tying and splitting the point.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be back on American soil at 2025 Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York.
