Breece Hall Apologized to Aaron Rodgers After Jets' Loss to 49ers; QB 'Not Worried'

Mike ChiariSep 10, 2024

New York Jets running back Breece Hall divulged that he apologized to quarterback Aaron Rodgers for his play during the Jets' 32-19 season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Hall said: "I told [Rodgers] I was sorry I didn't play as well as I could have and up to my potential. He was just like, 'It's going to be a long season, bro. I'm not worried about it. You'll be fine.'"

The Jets' season got off to an inauspicious start offensively, as they wen three-and-out on their first offensive series and then lost a fumble on their second.

Hall was the culprit, as he caught a shovel pass from Rodgers, only to put it on the ground due to a perfect punch-out from linebacker Fred Warner, allowing 49ers defensive tackle Maliek Collins to recover.

That mistake led directly to the first points of the game, as the Niners cashed in with a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

Big plays were tough to come by for Hall against the 49ers' top-flight defense, as he gained only 54 yards on 16 carries and 39 yards on five receptions, although he did have a rushing touchdown.

As poorly as things started for the Jets, it paled in comparison to what happened last year when Rodgers tore his Achilles on New York's first offensive series and was lost for the remainder of the season.

The 40-year-old Rodgers made it through Monday's game, although it wasn't a great performance by his lofty standards, as he went 13-of-21 for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

In the fourth quarter, Jets head coach Robert Saleh decided that the game was far enough out of reach that he pulled Rodgers from the game and put in backup Tyrod Taylor, who threw a three-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Allen Lazard with just 25 seconds remaining.

While that touchdown made the score look more presentable, it didn't erase a disappointing showing from a Jets team expected to contend for a playoff spot and potentially even an AFC East title in 2024.

With that said, it will likely take some time for the offense to fully jell given that Rodgers only played a few snaps last season.

Rodgers, Hall and the Jets will attempt to bounce back Sunday when they go on the road to face the 0-1 Tennessee Titans.
