Steelers Fans Want Justin Fields as QB1 over Russell Wilson After Win vs. Falcons

Pittsburgh Steelers fans are ready to name Justin Fields QB1 for the 2024 season.

After Fields stepped up for an injured Russell Wilson to lead the Steelers to a 18-10 win over Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons during Sunday's season opener, fans were ready for him to step up a place in the depth chart as well.

Wilson was limited in Steelers practice on Thursday and Friday after "aggravating" a calf injury suffered during training camp, per ESPN's Brooke Pryor.

Fields was named the starter hours before game time. He went on to go 17-of-23 for 156 yards, while adding 57 yards on 14 carries in his Steelers debut.

Kicker Chris Boswell tied a franchise record by making six field goals on six attempts in the win, but the Steelers did not record a touchdown in Fields' Pittsburgh debut.

Despite that lack of touchdowns from the offense, the Steelers defense stepped up to hold Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to 155 passing yards and one touchdown while forcing two interceptions.

The combination of Fields' solid debut and the strong defense from players like cornerback Donte Jackson gave Steelers fans a positive outlook for their team's outlook in the AFC North.

Steelers fans will now wait to see whether Fields or Wilson will be starting when the team hits the road next Sunday for a Week 2 contest against Wilson's former team in Denver.
