"Meet me in New Orleans."

That is what rapper Kendrick Lamar said in a Sunday video revealing he will be the halftime performer for Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans:

Lamar has made plenty of headlines this year by beefing with fellow rapper Drake, and now he will take the stage in front of tens of millions of people for one of the biggest concerts of the year.

It will be a familiar stage for Lamar, who was part of the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in February 2022.

His performance was part of an ensemble show that included appearances by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. His appearance came right after Blige's and right before Eminem emerged on stage:

The halftime performance at the home of the Los Angeles Rams came during the Super Bowl where the NFC West team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals.

Yet Lamar figures to have a more significant role as a headliner in this season's Super Bowl halftime show.

"Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer," Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation co-produces the halftime show, said, per Daniel Kreps of Rolling Stone. "His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick's work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come."

For his part, Lamar said, "Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."

This is part of a notable year for Lamar, who turned heads with his beef with Drake and made the chart-topping hit Not Like Us as part of it. Now he has something else to brag about as he gets another Super Bowl halftime nod.

Super Bowl LIX will take place Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the home of the New Orleans Saints.
