Red Sox's Trevor Story Expected to Return from Shoulder Injury vs. White Sox

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story, who has been out since suffering a dislocated left shoulder on April 5, is expected to make his return to the lineup on Saturday at home versus the Chicago White Sox.

Ian Browne of MLB.com relayed the news on Story, who has been rehabbing with Triple-A Worcester. Story has hit .375 (6-of-16) in four games.

Rookie Ceddanne Rafaela, who has played shortstop and outfielder for Boston, will move to second base.

Story is a two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger who broke into the bigs with the Colorado Rockies in 2016. For his career, Story has posted a 162-game average of 32 home runs and 97 RBI. He's also hit .265 with an .834 OPS.

The 31-year-old left the Rockies in free agency for the Red Sox on a six-year, $140 million deal in March 2022.

Unfortunately, injuries have sidelined Story for much of his Red Sox tenure. He was held to 94 games in 2022 largely due to a right hand contusion and then a left heel contusion. In January 2023, Story underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow, and he played just 43 games. Story played eight games this season before being placed on the injured list.

It's been a difficult road for a talented player who is a fantastic hitter at his best. Hopefully he is able to enjoy a prolonged period of good health moving forward for the Sox.

For now, he's with the ballclub for the final three weeks as the team makes a last-ditch effort at the American League Wild Card. Boston enters Friday five-and-a-half games behind the Kansas City Royals for the third and final spot.
