Cotton Bowl 2012: Why You'd Rather Have Bill Snyder than Bobby Petrino

Randy ChambersJun 4, 2018

After having so many great bowl games this season, there's another one tonight that should keep us entertained as well.

It's the Cotton Bowl that features the Arkansas Razorbacks and the surprising Kansas State Wildcats.

Both teams seem to be the complete opposite of each other.

The Razorbacks are a high-flying team that loves to pass the ball and plays solid defense. The Wildcats are a conservative team that wants to run the ball and plays subpar defense.

But the coaches of each program is what makes this game interesting.

Here's why you'd rather have Bill Snyder over Bobby Petrino.

Bill Snyder

1 of 3

Bill Snyder is a legendary coach who has been with the Wildcats since 1989, although he did take a break from 2005-2009. His overall record is 159-82-1, which is good for a winning percentage just short of 66 percent. He's 6-6 in bowl games.

He's coached the Wildcats to one Big 12 title in 2003 and has been named the Big 12 Coach of the Year three times, including this season. He has a winning record against conference opponents like Texas, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Baylor.

Before Snyder took over this program, they only made one bowl game ever. They've made 12 just under Snyder.

Bobby Petrino

2 of 3

Petrino is in his fourth year at Arkansas and is 33-17 during that time.

This is the second year in a row he's won double-digit games and the third season in a row he's reached a bowl game. He's won a C-USA title and a Big East title, both with the Louisville Cardinals.

This is his eighth season as a collegiate coach, and his overall record is 74-26.

In 2010, the Razorbacks reached their first BCS bowl game in this history of Arkansas history.

Why You'd Rather Have Bill Snyder

Both coaches are great at what they do, but Snyder is the better overall coach.

It's real simple, he does more with a lot less.

Kansas State has had a few solid recruiting classes, but a lot of the time they're at the bottom not just in the Big 12, but the entire country. Arkansas nearly always has a top recruiting class, and just recently, they're having success under Petrino.

Snyder should have won coach of the year this season for his efforts, as the Wildcats won 10 games this season. There's nobody on this planet who had them winning more than five games this year. Many had Kansas State finishing dead last in the Big 12 this year.

He's a master motivator and always knows how to get the most out of his kids. Petrino is a great offensive coach, but playing in the SEC, he has a ton of talent to get better results.

Bobby Petrino is an SEC coach who has more talented players, but yet, their winning percentages at the schools they're at now are nearly exactly the same. Give me Snyder over Petrino for this Cotton Bowl game and moving forward.

I'll always take the coach who does more with less because, if Snyder was in Petrino's situation, his record and accomplishments would be even greater.
