Patrick Mahomes continued his magical career on Sunday night, surpassing Len Dawson as the Kansas City Chiefs' all-time passing leader with a second-quarter completion to star tight end Travis Kelce in the NFL's 2024 season opener.

After his historic feat, Alex Smith—who played for the team between the 2013-17 seasons and ranks fourth in Chiefs history with 17,608 passing yards—congratulated the man who ultimately replaced him:

"I've only got one question for you: What took you so long?" Smith joked in the video. "In all seriousness, what you've done for this team, this city and everyone whose ever worn a Chiefs jersey is nothing short of incredible. You make us all proud, both on and off the field. From the very beginning, we all knew you were going to take this franchise to new heights, and that's exactly what you've done."
