Cowboys Hyped by NFL Exec for 2024 Season amid Rumors: 'They Thrive in the Chaos'

It's been an eventful summer for the Dallas Cowboys, but at least one NFL executive believes that may not be such a bad thing.

"They thrive in the chaos," the executive told Mike Sando of The Athletic. "Looking at sheer talent, this is a pretty good group. The injury to [DaRon] Bland is significant, but they will be able to rush the passer. They will be able to score points. They'll be tough."

Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb held out of training camp as he waited for a long-term contract extension, eventually receiving a new four-year deal worth $136 million on Aug. 26.

The Cowboys also discussed an extension with Dak Prescott, although the two sides have yet to strike a deal. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday that it's "looking like" Prescott will enter free agency in 2025 after he finishes the final year of his current contract.

Head coach Mike McCarthy is in the last year of his contract with the team as well, and he could face an uncertain future if the Cowboys are unable to make a deep playoff run.

Dallas' secondary will also be shorthanded at the beginning of the season, as cornerback DaRon Bland was placed on injured reserve due to a stress fracture in his foot following a breakout 2023 season.

However, All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs is set to return after he missed the final 15 games of his 2023 campaign due to a torn ACL. The Cowboys' defense still features standouts on the defensive line such as Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.

The Cowboys will look to put a busy offseason behind them and attempt to win their second straight NFC East crown. Their journey will begin in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, with kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
