Peter Schrager Picks Chiefs to Win Super Bowl 59, Correctly Predicted Last 5 Champs

Joseph ZuckerSep 5, 2024

The oracle of the NFL has weighed in with his pick for Super Bowl LIX.

NFL Network's Peter Schrager has the Kansas City Chiefs besting the Green Bay Packers on Feb. 9, 2025 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. He has correctly called the last five Super Bowl champions.

Choosing the Chiefs isn't exactly going out on a limb. They're the two-time reigning Super Bowl champions and competed in four of the last five installments.

History is working against Kansas City, though. No NFL team has won three straight Super Bowls and the last three-peat of any time came in the 1960s. The Green Bay Packers were crowned the NFL champions in 1965 and then prevailed in the first two Super Bowls after the NFL-AFL merger.

A number of dynasties emerged since then, yet none could win three Super Bowls in a row.

The Chiefs have most of their key players returning from last year's squad, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes is perhaps the single biggest cheat code in sports right now. Still, they'll need their fair share of good fortune to be the last team standing. One injury to a major star will derail their three-peat quest.

There's also the mental fatigue that can come with chasing this kind of success for so long.

"It's just human nature to relax when you succeed, and everybody is telling you how wonderful you are," said Jerry Kramer, a Hall of Famer from the Packers during their legendary run, to ESPN's Elizabeth Merrill. "I think that's probably the biggest thing they have to fight."

Despite the Chiefs being the early favorites, Schrager might be taking his biggest risk yet in terms of preserving his impressive streak.
