Video: Cowboys' Jerry Jones Says Dak Prescott Will 'Age Well' amid Contract Rumors

Jerry Jones sees some strong career longevity for Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys owner sat down with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith to discuss the upcoming 2024 NFL season. The conversation steered toward quarterback Dak Prescott and his contract status and Jones said that he believes a Prescott signing will not age poorly.

"What he is as a person and as a quarterback will age well," Jones said. "I think it will age well as he moves into the next five-or-ten years of his life. I think he's the kind of quarterback that gets better and better."

Prescott is entering the final season of his current contract and is eligible to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. The two sides are reportedly "not close" on a new deal.

Jones' praise for the 31-year-old shows how important he is to the Cowboys success. Prescott threw for 4,516 yards with 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions in 2024 while leading the team to a 12-5 record and an NFC East title.

He has compiled an overall record of 73-41 as a starter and led Dallas to five playoff appearances. However, this has not led to much playoff success, as he has an overall record of 2-5 in the postseason. That said, the pieces to success appear to be there with offensive weapons like CeeDee Lamb, Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott.

If Prescott has a promising 2024, he could set the market for quarterbacks. Dallas may have to do that now in order to lock him up or potentially compete with the field in March.
