Warriors Rumors: Troy Brown Jr. to Have Workout Before Camp After T-Wolves Stint

Doric SamSep 4, 2024

The Golden State Warriors are set to host a few veteran workouts this week, and they will reportedly start with a longtime swingman.

Per ESPN's Kendra Andrews, the Warriors will work out shooting guard Troy Brown Jr., who split the 2023-24 season between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons.

Andrews noted that Golden State still has two partial non-guarantee contracts available for the 2024-25 season, giving the team the chance to add some depth ahead of training camp.

The No. 15 pick in the 2018 NBA draft, Brown began his career with the Washington Wizards and spent time with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. He signed with the Timberwolves last July and appeared in 37 games before being sent to the Pistons at the 2024 trade deadline in February.

In 22 games in Detroit, Brown made 12 starts and averaged 4.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 18.9 minutes of action. His efficiency left much to be desired, as he shot just 29.6 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from three-point range. The Pistons waived him in June.

The Warriors tried to take some big swings in adding talent to their roster this offseason but came up empty. Rumored trade pursuits for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen were unsuccessful, and the team lost longtime shooting guard Klay Thompson to free agency when he chose to sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

Golden State is hoping to contend for a playoff spot, but it will be an uphill climb because of the team's lack of talent behind Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
