Mykel Williams Week-to-Week with Injury; Georgia DL is Projected Top-5 NFL Draft Pick

The Georgia Bulldogs appear to have avoided the worst with defensive lineman Mykel Williams.

Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart revealed that Williams had suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain in Georgia's season opener against Clemson and that he is questionable for the team's Week 2 matchup against Tennessee Tech.

"It's stable. He's week-to-week," Smart said, per Mark Schlabach of ESPN. "He's questionable for this week, but it's not long term."

Williams is projected as a potential Top 5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Williams was injured following a low block from Clemson running back Phil Mafah during the third quarter. He finished the game with two tackles and the Bulldogs would win the game 34-3 to start the season 1-0.

He registered 18 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 13 games for Georgia in 2023. The 20-year-old is entering his third season with the program and should be a cornerstone of the defense.

While his loss may not be felt too much against Tennessee Tech, a prolonged absence could put him behind schedule for more important games down the line.
