Fans Rip Sherrone Moore in Michigan HC Debut to Replace Jim Harbaugh After CFP Win
The first game of the Sherrone Moore era didn't produce the dominant results Michigan grew accustomed to last season.
The No. 9 Wolverines won their season opener 30-10, but it didn't come without a fight from Fresno State.
Michigan led by just a touchdown heading into the half, and Fresno State had the Wolverines within just six points in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines extended the lead to 13 and almost put the nail in the coffin halfway through the fourth, but Michigan's interception was called back after a roughing the passer call.
The Bulldogs almost made the most of the lucky break, but star defensive back Will Johnson housed an interception 86 yards to make it a 30-10 game.
After Michigan struggled in its first game on its quest to defend a national title, fans were disappointed with the way Moore handled things in his debut.
One of the biggest complaints Michigan fans had was Moore's decision to start Davis Warren over Alex Orji at quarterback. Warren, a former walk-on, had 118 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception on 15-of-25 passing. Orji still got some playing time, completing one of his three passes for three yards and a touchdown while also picking up 32 yards on the ground.
Moore has plenty of experience, coaching under Jim Harbaugh for six years. He also had to take over head coaching responsibilities for a few games last season as Harbaugh served a suspension, and he managed to lead the Wolverines to wins in all of those games, including one against Ohio State.
While his debut didn't go exactly to plan, Moore can quickly quiet the doubters if he gets a win against No. 4 Texas next week.
