Photo: Eagles Reveal Historic Uniform Combo for Packers Game with Black Helmet

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to wear a unique uniform color combination for their game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season.

The Eagles announced Friday that for the first time ever, they will wear black helmets, white jerseys and black pants:

According to Brooks Kubena of The Athletic, the decision was inspired by the fact that the game against Green Bay will be played in São Paulo, Brazil, at Arena Corinthians, which is home to the Corinthians soccer team.

Kubena noted that Corinthians' primary color is black, while rival Palmeiras' is green. He added that city laws prevent fans from wearing green at Corinthians matches to "cut down hooliganism," so the idea is that wearing black will endear the Eagles to the fans in São Paulo.

Despite the disdain for Palmeiras and the color green at Arena Corinthians, the Packers announced Friday that they are going with their traditional look, wearing green jerseys and gold pants:

After the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens open the season with a Thursday night game on Sept. 5, the Eagles and Packers will make some history.

In addition to playing an unconventional Friday night game in Week 1, their game will be the first NFL contest ever played in Brazil or on the continent of South America as a whole.

The Eagles are designated as the home team for the game, so it makes sense why they are going with a primarily black color scheme to remain in line with Corinthians.

Uniforms aside, Philly vs. Green Bay could prove to be one of the best games of Week 1, as it will pit two playoff teams from last season against each other.

On the heels of reaching the Super Bowl and barely falling to the Chiefs in 2022, the Eagles started the 2023 campaign 10-1 and seemed poised to contend for a Super Bowl again. But they dropped five of their final six regular-season games and were blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Conversely, the Packers rallied down the stretch behind the play of first-year starting quarterback Jordan Love, winning their final three regular-season games and then upsetting the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Entering 2024, the Eagles will look to put the nightmarish ending to 2023 behind them, while the Packers will attempt to build upon the foundation they laid down.
