LeBron James' 'The Chosen One' SI Cover Jersey Could Sell for Record $1M-$2M

A coveted piece of LeBron James memorabilia is set to be up for auction next month, and it is likely to be sold for an eye-popping number.

James' legendary St. Vincent-St. Mary High School jersey that he wore during his iconic photoshoot for "The Chosen One" 2002 cover story in Sports Illustrated will headline Julien's Auctions "Legends In Motion" event in Hong Kong on September 28. The jersey has an estimated price of $1-2 million, which would set a new world record for a high school basketball jersey sold at auction.

"LeBron James' famous 'The Chosen One' high school basketball jersey and these rare photo prints of him taken during his remarkable Sports Illustrated photo shoot are some of the most emblematic and important pieces of sports and entertainment history," David Goodman, CEO of Julien's Auctions, said in a release. "This storied jersey represents the pivotal moment of LeBron's ascension to basketball royalty and is one of the must-have collectibles of all time for sports memorabilia collectors, historians and fans."

Following the photoshoot for Sports Illustrated, James wore the same jersey later that day when he dropped 32 points and seven rebounds in a high school game between St. Vincent-St. Mary and Archbishop Hoban.

"The Chosen One" cover story catapulted James to national superstardom a year before he became the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA draft. He went on to deliver on the moniker, winning four NBA championships and breaking the record for the most career points in league history.

The 39-year-old is set to enter his 22nd season in the NBA, and he will be looking to cap off his legendary career on a high note.
