NFL Trade Rumors: Browns to 'Field Calls' on Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley Before W1

The Cleveland Browns' roster crunch could make either Jameis Winston or Tyler Huntley expendable.

Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns will "field calls" for Winston and Huntley after Dorian Thompson-Robinson was informed he made the 53-man roster.

While no deal appears imminent, Cabot noted Winston or Huntley could end up being traded.

Since the Browns held Deshaun Watson out of all three preseason games, it provided ample opportunity for the other three quarterbacks on the roster to showcase their skills.

Thompson-Robinson looked the best in the group. He threw for 375 yards with one touchdown, one interception and a 69.1 completion percentage on 55 attempts in three games.

Winston seemed like he was in line to be the backup based on how head coach Kevin Stefanski used him in preseason. The 2013 Heisman winner started both preseason games he played and finished 10-of-14 for 93 yards over three drives.

Huntley played well when his number was called with 322 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Browns might need to be more mindful of quarterback depth than most teams because of Watson's recent injury woes. He wasn't cleared for contact to his surgically repaired right shoulder until Aug. 11. Stefanksi elected to sit him for the final two preseason games, even though he was initially planned to start against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 24.

Watson had been limited in practice with "general arm soreness" earlier in the week, but the team listed him as a full participant on Thursday.

Thompson-Robinson is the quarterback who is most familiar with the offensive system. He was a fifth-round draft pick by the Browns in 2023 and made three starts as a rookie. Winston and Huntley signed with the team as free agents in March.

The deadline for teams to cut their rosters to 53 players was Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. All four quarterbacks made the Browns' 53-man roster.
