Fantasy NFL Rumors: Raiders' Brock Bowers, Giants' Theo Johnson Eyed for Major Roles

Jack MurrayAug 25, 2024

Some rookie tight ends are set to play major fantasy roles in 2024.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Las Vegas Raiders have "big plans" for 2024 first-round pick Brock Bowers and that the New York Giants envision fourth-round pick Theo Johnson being a "factor" in the offense.

Bowers carried significant hype as he entered the NFL after a prolific career at Georgia. In three seasons with the Bulldogs, Bowers made 175 catches for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also added 193 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

He helped lead Georgia to two National Championships and was the first tight end off the board at the 2024 Draft. He joins a Raiders team that went 8-9 in 2023 and is hoping Gardner Minshew can elevate the offense and utilize Bowers effectively.

Johnson had more of a modest career at Penn State, accumulating 938 yards and 12 touchdowns in four seasons. The Giants will hope he can translate well to the NFL in the aftermath of Darren Waller's retirement.

He is currently projected to form a tandem with Daniel Bellinger in a crucial year for the Giants offense. New York went 6-11 in 2023 and took a step back after a promising 2022 season. Quarterback Daniel Jones went down with a torn ACL last season but will be back under center in 2024 and Johnson could prove to be an underrated option.

Bowers will likely be a popular fantasy option while Johnson may be more of a hidden gem. Schefter's report shows that both players could make fantasy owners very happy.
