Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić to Team Up for Goran Dragić Farewell Game vs. Nash, More

Zach BacharAug 23, 2024

15-year NBA veteran Goran Dragić will participate in a star-studded farewell game on Saturday, with the starting lineups for each team revealed on Friday.

Dragić will play alongside Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash. The backcourt is set to face off against two current NBA superstars, as Luka Dončić and Nikola Jokić joined forces on the opposing squad (h/t NBA insider Marc Stein).

The contest will be taking place in Slovenia after Dragić announced his retirement in Dec. 2023.

The event is called "Night of the Dragon," paying homage to Dragić's nickname during his playing career. The game will honor the 38-year-old's time in the NBA as well as his achievements on the international stage and is sponsored by The Goran Dragic Foundation (via BasketNews.com).

Dončić, Jokić, and Nash are far from the only participants with NBA experience. Dirk Nowitzki, Bogdan Bogdanović, Robin Lopez, Josh Richardson, and Nikola Vučević will also be playing. Hall of Fame forward Chris Bosh is set to attend the event, although he won't be participating in any on-court activities.

While the game will honor Dragić, it doesn't appear that either side is taking the matchup lightly. Dragić and Nash announced their intention to play an up-tempo offense, while Dončić is planning on feeding the ball to Jokić and Lopez in the paint (per Stein).

Prior to his retirement, Dragić spent the 2022-23 season with the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks. He was named an All-Star with the Miami Heat in 2018 and also played for the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and Toronto Raptors.

He averaged 13.3 points and 4.7 assists per game throughout his career, shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from three-point range while connecting on 76.6 percent of his free throws.

Saturday's farewell game will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
