Jahan Dotson Traded to Eagles with Pick; Commanders Get 3 Picks in 2025 NFL Draft

A trade between division rivals is a rarity in the NFL, but the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders pulled off a deal on Thursday.

The Eagles announced that they acquired wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 draft.

Dotson was selected by the Commanders with the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but he hasn't lived up to his draft status. The Penn State product showed flashes of potential during his rookie year with 35 catches for 523 yards and seven touchdowns despite missing five games with a hamstring injury. He appeared in all 17 games during the 2023 season, but he put up just 518 yards and four touchdowns on 49 receptions.

Entering the 2022 draft, Dotson was a highly regarded prospect because of his deep-ball prowess. He averaged 15.1 yards per catch during his four-year collegiate career, and he registered career highs of 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns during his senior season for the Nittany Lions.

Dotson is joining a talented Eagles offense that is led by star quarterback Jalen Hurts and the dynamic receiving duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Philadelphia also added star running back Saquon Barkley this offseason to further boost its firepower. Dotson should face more single coverage with so many skilled players around him.

The Eagles are looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish to the 2023 season, so adding Dotson is a smart move as they gear up for the start of the 2024 campaign.
