Packers' Win-Loss Predictions for 2024 NFL Season

Aug 21, 2024

The Green Bay Packers exceeded expectations with a 9-8 season that featured a 6-2 run to end the season before upsetting the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs.

That was with one of the league's youngest rosters and Jordan Love playing his first full season as the team's starting quarterbacks. The Packers ultimately dispelled a lot of the concerns they had going into the season.

This year, there really aren't that many concerns to consider. They are returning most of the major players that helped them finish as one of the top teams in the NFC.

Now the question becomes whether they can build on that success or if they'll spend at least part of the season in a slump.

Here, we'll take a look at what the schedule looks like, examine the rosters strengths and weaknesses before making a prediction as to what record the Packers end up with.

Expectations and Analysis

It's safe to say expectations are a lot higher than last season. The Packers win total over at DraftKings Sportsbook is 9.5 and the over is the favored outcome at -135. They also have the fifth-best odds to win the NFC at +800.

They'll enter the season as the second-choice to win the NFC North at +230. The Lions are the favorite at +135 but the Bears aren't far behind the Packers with +275 odds.

Taken together, the Packers are expected to be a good team that should lead the NFC wildcard race but will still need some breaks to catch up to the Lions. At least, that's how oddsmakers are viewing the team.

The offense has to be a big reason for that. Jordan Love was dominant in the second half of the season, recording the most touchdown passes and leading the league in Total QBR during that time frame.

The question on offense is whether the offensive line will protect him. They drafted Jordan Morgan in the first round to bolster the offensive line. He is now listed on the team's unofficial depth chart as the team's right guard while Rasheed Walker appears to have the left tackle job.

It's a relatively young offensive line with a high ceiling but a wide range of outcomes. A new look backfield will hope to find open running lanes. Josh Jacobs is taking over lead back duties from Aaron Jones.

The big question and most intriguing storyline is Jeff Hafley taking over the defensive line. The Packers have a lot of talent on that side of the ball, but the production didn't live up to the talent on paper under Joe Barry.

Transitioning from one defensive coordinator to another could open the door for a slow start. The good news is that the schedule could curb that possibility.

They kick off the season with the Eagles. They'll face a learning curve of their own as they have a new offensive and defensive coordinator.

After that, it's the Colts, Titans and Vikings. All have serious question marks on offense as they'll potentially face Anthony Richardson and Will Levis in their second seasons and Sam Darnold.

That should give the defense an on-ramp to success as they learn to execute Hafley's vision.

On offense, it's hard not to like the group as a whole. It's fair to wonder if they paid Josh Jacobs too much and which version of the running back they will get, but the ceiling of the unit is still determined by Jordan Love and the rapport he has with a young, homegrown receiving corps.

It's tough to come up with reasons why this team won't challenge the Lions for the division and build on their success.

Prediction: 11-6
