Cowboys' Jerry Jones Discusses Latest on Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb Contract Talks

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered contract talk updates on wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott, with comments appearing more optimistic on the former player than the latter.

Lamb, who has one year left on his rookie deal, is holding out of training camp in search of a long-term extension. Prescott has one season remaining on a four-year, $160 million contract signed in 2021.

It seems like there's at least some optimism that a Lamb deal can get done, which is important given that the 25-year-old just dominated the NFL to the tune of 135 catches, 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

ESPN's Jeff Darlington spoke about the matter Monday on Get Up, saying "it really doesn't feel like they've gotten to a point where they know the annual salary, where they know the contract length, where they know the real structure of the contract where it becomes guaranteed money."

He added:

"So, yes it could all come together very quickly, but we don't really have any of those things feeling like there is any reason to think it is imminent. So, the best I can tell you is that behind the scenes, the Cowboys remain optimistic but until they get much closer to that number, that contract that Justin Jefferson has at $35 million a year, and maybe it doesn't have to be all the way there, we're not there yet."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on the Pat McAfee Show that he thought Lamb would get a deal done in time for Week 1.

As for Prescott, it doesn't seem as if the two sides are on the goal line, but there has at least been some hopeful news.

"I'm not putting that much thought into hoping it gets done now, hoping it gets done in a couple of weeks, during the season or whenever it happens," Prescott said on Aug. 15, per Todd Archer of ESPN. "I just know conversations are on the right way."

He also added that "a lot of good things are going on in there" and further expressed how much he liked his current situation.

"I enjoy being a Cowboy 1,000 percent, enjoy living in Dallas, enjoy everything about it," Prescott said. "But this is a business. Conversations are going well, but I'm thankful to be where I am right now and that's here."

Prescott arguably enjoyed his best season as a pro last year, completing 69.5 percent of his passes for 36 touchdowns (nine interceptions) and 4,516 yards.

Dallas opens the season on Sept. 8 at the Cleveland Browns.
