Video: Chargers' Justin Herbert Returns to Practice amid Foot Injury; Out Since July

Andrew PetersAug 19, 2024

Justin Herbert is back on the field after missing an extended period of time with a foot injury.

The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback has been out since July, but returned on Monday and was seen throwing passes at the team's practice facility.

Herbert was diagnosed with an injury to his plantar fascia in his right foot and has worn a walking boot for the last few weeks. He recently stopped wearing the boot and was back on the field soon after.

The Athletic's Daniel Popper noted that Herbert was not wearing cleats, but instead "some sort of sneakers/turf shoes."

After being diagnosed with the injury, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he expected Herbert to play in Los Angeles' Week 1 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, and him being back on the practice field is a good indication that he'll be ready to go.

Herbert has avoided injury for the most part during his four-year career, but has recently dealt with a few missteps. In December, he suffered a season-ending finger injury, ending his streak of 62 straight games played.

Luckily for Herbert and the Chargers, it seems he won't have to miss any time due to the foot injury.

Last season, Herbert had 3,134 passing yards and 25 touchdowns in 13 games. In his last full season in 2022, he racked up 4,739 yards and 25 touchdowns.

While Herbert has been a standout quarterback for the Chargers, it hasn't resulted in much success for the team. Los Angeles has reached the postseason just once during Herbert's time and went 5-12 last season, firing head coach Brandon Staley.

Now with a healthy Herbert and a new head coach, the Chargers will look to right the ship.
