The Old Course at St. Andrews will provide a backdrop for this year's tournament. Considered the oldest course in the world, it is a venue rich in history and tradition. It played host to the 2022 Open Championship and has twice hosted the Women's Open—most recently in 2013.

Defending champion Lilia Vu will be looking to repeat after winning last year's Women's Open at Walton Heath. However, Vu will face stiff competition from the likes of Charley Hull, last year's runner-up, and world No. 1-ranked Nelly Korda.

Interestingly, Vu, Hull and Korda will be paired together to open the tournament and will tee off at 8:10 a.m. ET.

Vu won two majors in 2023, while Korda picked up her second career major win at the Chevron Championship earlier this year. Hull is hoping to finally secure a major victory at St. Andrews.

"It would be a pretty special win," Hull said, per Sky Sports' Ali Stafford. "Something that you've always dreamed of as a baby, so it would be very special."

Other early favorites include Jin Young Ko, Atthaya Thitikul and Ayaka Furue, who won last month's Evian Championship.

The field certainly features some of the world's best golfers, but they'll all be challenged by St. Andrews' links course. Rough Scottish weather is often a factor at the Old Course, and things are looking no different this weekend.

According to Martin Dempster of The Scotsman, competitors could see wind gusts of up to 50 mph on Thursday.

Golfers will have to contend with the elements as well as one another, which could the tournament more of an endurance test than a race to low numbers. While that may not be ideal Vu, Korda and Co., it should provide fans with a thrilling spectacle.
