Giants' Daniel Jones Trolled by NFL Fans for Pick-6 vs. Texans After Tom Brady Joke

Adam WellsAug 17, 2024

It took Daniel Jones four throws into his 2024 preseason debut for the New York Giants to prove Tom Brady right.

The Giants quarterback made a horrendous decision as he was being tackled in his own end zone by forcing a throw to Theo Johnson that Texans cornerback Jalen Pitre picked off for the easiest touchdown of his life.

That decision came three passes after Jones tried throwing a pick-six to Derek Stingley Jr. on his first attempt of the game, but Stingley was unable to corral the ball.

All of this came one day after Tom Brady used Jones as an example of a quarterback who might theoretically thrown an interception in a game during a panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City.

As you would expect, fans had fun at Jones' expense in the wake of his ill-advised mistake after Brady unintentionally—right?—called him out.

With apologies to Giants fans who are enduring this, things did not immediately get better for Jones after that blunder. On their ensuing possession, the offense looked like it found a little rhythm. The Giants picked up three first downs, including one on a 14-yard reception by Malik Nabers, but the drive ended with another interception when Jones tried to force the ball to Jalin Hyatt deep down the sideline.

Jones finally offered some signs of encouragement on the Giants' fourth drive of the game. He made a terrific throw to Darius Slayton for 44 yards to set up a Devin Singletary touchdown run two plays later.

It was easy to hand-wave away the offensive issues last season because the offensive line was bad. To be clear, that unit still doesn't look great based on the early returns this preseason.

But Jones not being able to consistently help the situation could lead to a lot of struggles for the offense. A starting quarterback going into his sixth season should not be making the throws he did that resulted in a turnover and near-turnover.

The pressure is mounting for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll after a 6-11 record last season. If the Giants have another rough season, there could be some major changes throughout the organization.
