LLWS Friday: Schedule and Results

Venezuela 10, Mexico 0

Hawaii 5, Illinois 0

Chinese Taipei 11, Australia 0

Florida 6, Washington 1

Venezuela 10, Mexico 0

After a dominant run to being crowned regional champions of Central America, Venezuela looks like a contender for the country's third title in tournament history after a convincing 10-0 win over Mexico.

Jhonson Freitez put Venezuela ahead in the top of the first with a three-run home run.

By the third inning, Venezuela had extended the lead to 9-0. The game ended via the mercy rule in the fourth inning.

Mexico will get another chance to remain in the tournament with a win in an elimination game against Puerto Rico or Canada on Sunday. Venezuela will meanwhile move on in the winner's bracket to face Japan on Monday.

Hawaii 5, Illinois 0

Hawaii became the first team from the United States bracket to win two games with a 5-0 shutout of Illinois.

Evan Tavares capped off a strong performance on the mound with an RBI hit in the third inning, which sent three runners home and gave Hawaii a convincing four-run lead.

Hawaii also won Wednesday against New England. The West regional champions will now advance to face Nevada, while Illinois will take on South Dakota or New York in the elimination bracket.

Chinese Taipei 11, Australia 0

Chinese Taipei scored six first-inning runs en route to an 11-0 mercy-rule victory over Australia in five frames.

Liao Hsuan-Hao smacked three hits and drove in five runs. He hit an RBI single in the first, a two-RBI single in the third and a two-RBI double in the fifth. Ciou Zhi-Kai had three walks and three runs.

Three pitchers combined to throw five one-hit innings for Chinese Taipei. Chiu Wei-Che notably struck out five over two frames in relief.

Chinese Taipei has now outscored its opponents 19-0 after beating Canada 8-0 in the opening round. A date with Cuba (Villa Clara) is up next.

Australia will now play the winner of Europe-Africa (Brno, Czech Republic) and Caribbean (Santa Cruz, Aruba) in an elimination game.

Florida 6, Washington 1

A strong pitching performance and timely hitting led Florida to a 6-1 win over Texas.

Three Florida pitchers (Luis Calo, Liam Morrisey, Lathan Norton) combined for nine strikeouts in a two-hitter. Florida also held Texas hitless over the final three frames.

At the dish, Florida scored one run in the second, two each in the third and fourth innings and one more in the sixth courtesy of a James Feliciano solo home run.

Other key moments included a Calo bases-loaded walk for a 4-1 edge and an ensuing Trey Alexander RBI single to make the score 5-1.

Florida will now advance to play Texas. Washington will play the winner of New Hampshire vs. Pennsylvania in an elimination game.
