Vikings' Jordan Addison Avoids Serious Ankle Injury, Won't Miss Extended Time

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison avoided a serious ankle injury during Wednesday's practice, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.

"I don't see him missing any extended time," O'Connell said, per ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

There was concern surrounding Addison's long-term health following the injury, as he left practice in a cart after he was helped off the field by the training staff. However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that "initial belief" was that the injury wasn't serious before O'Connell's confirmation Thursday.

Minnesota has already dealt with training camp injury news, as rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy previously suffered a season-ending torn meniscus that required surgery.

While the Vikings can still start veteran Sam Darnold under center, their offense would have needed to rely on Justin Jefferson more than usual if Addison was forced to miss an extended period. The 22-year-old is coming off an impressive rookie year, hauling in 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing in all 17 regular-season games.

Addison was arrested in California on July 12 and eventually charged with driving under the influence. ESPN's Dan Graziano reported on Aug. 9 that the Vikings "anticipate" a suspension from the NFL for the wideout following the legal proceedings from the arrest—potentially "late this season or during the 2025 offseason."

Addison's arraignment and plea hearing isn't until Oct. 7.

His status for the Vikings' next preseason contest against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday is still up in the air due to the injury, though he may be able to return in time for Minnesota's Week 1 clash with the New York Giants on Sept. 8.
