Video: Patrick Beverley Says Darvin Ham Apologized for Lakers' Limited Practices
Patrick Beverley received some closure from former head coach Darvin Ham.
During Thursday's episode of the Pat Bev Podcast, the 36-year-old reflected on a conversation he had with his former Los Angeles Lakers coach in Las Vegas. He said that Ham apologized for not listening to Beverley's suggestion that the team practices more often.
Beverley said he was impressed with Ham's humility and said it differs from how other coaches approach these situations.
"You know, as a coach, you are never supposed to apologize," Beverley said. "The decision you make is the decision you make."
Beverley was with the Lakers during the 2022-23 season but would get moved to the Chicago Bulls midseason. The team was 21-24 with Beverley on the roster but finished the season 22-15 and ultimately reached the Western Conference Finals.
The Lakers would improve record-wise in 2023-24, going 47-35, but would fall to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. This would lead to Ham's firing.
As Beverley prepares for a career with Hapoel Tel Aviv of the Israeli Basketball Premier League, he will at least know that his instincts with the Lakers were validated.
