Patrick Mahomes Hopes Chiefs Get Marquise Brown Back from Injury 'Sooner' Than Later

Jack MurrayAug 15, 2024

Patrick Mahomes is hoping that Marquise Brown has a swift recovery.

Brown went down during the Kansas City Chiefs' first preseason game with a dislocated shoulder and will miss some time. Mahomes said that the team is thankful Brown's injury wasn't more severe but that the team is feeling his veteran presence.

"I guess we're lucky that it wasn't as bad as it could have been," Mahomes said, per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. "We lose a little bit of that veteran-type receiver in that room. We have other guys that can replace him a little bit, but to have that much talent and have a good understanding of what I want ... hopefully we're getting him back sooner rather than later."

Mahomes continued by saying that the young receivers on the roster need to "keep getting better and better every day" in order for the Chiefs to stay successful in Brown's absence.

Brown signed with the Chiefs in the 2024 offseason after spending the previous two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He is coming off of a year in which he had 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns, but he did this with multiple different quarterbacks on a Cardinals team that went 4-13 in 2023.

He has shown more explosion in the past, with his best season coming in 2021. That year, he had 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs hope he can revert back to that production with Mahomes under center.

If Brown is out for any time during the regular season, Kansas City will roll forward with players like Xavier Worthy, Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney in bigger roles.
