NFL Rumors: Chiefs' Marquise Brown Expected to Miss 4-6 Weeks With Shoulder Injury

Timothy RappAug 13, 2024

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Marquise "Hollywood" Brown is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a dislocated sternoclavicular joint, according to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.

That likely means he will miss at least the first two games of the regular season against the Baltimore Ravens (Thursday, Sept. 5) and Cincinnati Bengals (Sunday, Sept. 15).

"He'll miss some time," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters regarding Brown earlier in the week, noting that he wouldn't require surgery.

The 27-year-old wideout suffered the injury in the team's opening preseason game and was hospitalized, though he was released on Sunday. Tyreek Hill suffered a similar injury in 2019 during his time with the Chiefs and missed four games.

Kansas City revamped its receiver room this offseason given the struggles of that group last year and the uncertainty of Rashee Rice's status moving forward. Rice's offseason arrest for his involvement in a car accident led to eight charges levied against him.

Brown was one of two big-ticket acquisitions after the Chiefs signed him to a one-year, $7 million deal. The other was the selection of Texas speedster Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick during the first round in April's NFL draft.

The former has shown flashes of stardom during his five-year NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals, notching career highs in receptions (91) and receiving yards (1,008) during the 2021 season and a career-high in touchdown receptions (eight) in 2020.

Brown didn't get to play with Kyler Murray during the first 10 weeks of the season last year, however, and it showed—he finished the 2023 campaign with just 51 catches for 574 yards (a career low) and four scores.

His speed, however, was expected to be the perfect match for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Reid's field-stretching offensive scheme. But given his latest injury, his regular-season debut with the team will be put on hold.
