Letsile Tebogo made Botswana history at the Paris Olympics this summer, winning the 200m sprint in an upset over the United States' pair of Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles, who won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

It was the first gold medal in the country's history, and Tebogo was given a hero's welcome when he returned home:

He also helped Botswana claim a silver medal in the 4x400m relay, leaving the country's medal count at four in total during the Paris Games.

After the fact, he dedicated the gold medal to his late mother Seratiwa, who died in May.

"It's basically me carrying her through every stride that I take inside the field," he told reporters. "To take her [with me], it gives me a lot of motivation. She's watching up there, and she's really, really happy."

The rest of Botswana was equally thrilled for Tebogo's achievement.
