Olympic Basketball Bracket 2024: Serbia Beats Germany to Win Men's Bronze Medal
Nikola Jokić's triple-double lifted Serbia to a 93-83 victory over Germany in the bronze-medal game at the 2024 Olympics on Saturday.
The three-time NBA MVP scored 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 11 assists in 38 minutes in the win. Bogdan Bogdanović chipped in with 16 points on 3-of-4 three-point shooting.
Jokić's domination on Saturday capped off a fantastic tournament. He leads all players in the Olympics in points, rebounds and assists.
Jokić became the fourth player in Olympic history to record a triple-double. He joins a group that includes LeBron James (twice), Aleksandr Belov and Luka Dončić.
The Serbian team got off to a hot start with 30 points in the first quarter and opened up a 19-point lead midway through the third quarter.
Germany did battle back to cut the deficit to 82-74 with 5:29 left to play, but Bogdanović's three-pointer on Serbia's ensuing possession cut off the momentum.
Serbia shot 50 percent from the field, with six players scoring in double figures. Vasilije Micić was a huge difference in the game with 19 points off the bench.
Despite the loss, Franz Wagner had a very good showing for Germany. The Orlando Magic forward finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in 36 minutes. Mo Wagner contributed 16 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
This was a terrific bounce-back performance for Serbia, both after Thursday's tough loss to the United States and after missing the 2020 Olympics. This marks the country's third Olympic medal in men's basketball after winning silver in 1996 and 2016.
Even though the tournament ended with a loss, this was Germany's best-ever showing in the Olympics. The country had never finished higher than seventh in its six previous appearances in the Summer Games.
