Jake Paul Intends to Compete in Boxing at 2028 LA Olympics, Says He'll Win Gold Medal

Jake Paul only recently started to compete against full-time boxers, but he's already setting his sights on the 2028 Olympics.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer revealed on his podcast he's going to enter his name into the field for the Olympics that will be held in Los Angeles and vowed to win a gold medal.

Paul has a 10-1 career record in 11 professional fights, including a TKO win over Mike Perry on June 20.

Of those 11 fights, six have come against opponents with five or fewer professional boxing matches in their careers. Nate Robinson, Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley have combined for a total of eight professional matches.

Paul's next scheduled bout is against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, who hasn't had a professional fight since 2005, on Nov. 15.

The 27-year-old Paul typically fights around 200 pounds, putting him in the heavyweight division if he qualifies for the Olympics.

For perspective, Loren Alfonso from Azerbaijan and Lazizbek Mullojonov from Uzbekistan will fight for the gold medal at the Paris Games on Friday. Alfonso has 66 professional fights in his career with a 49-17 record. Mullojonov only has four bouts on his professional record, but he won gold as a super heavyweight at the 2022 Asian Games and bronze as a heavyweight at the 2023 World Championships.

The qualifying process for American boxers to make the 2024 Olympic trials includes meeting six minimum eligibility requirements and finishing in the top two in a qualifier tournament in an Olympic weight category.

Paul's desire to win a gold medal comes as the U.S. has failed to win a boxing medal in the heavyweight division since Deontay Wilder earned a bronze in 2008. Ray Mercer was the last American to win gold as a heavyweight in 1988.
