The men's 10km served as the final Olympic event to be held in the Seine. The river has been the focus of intense discussion throughout the Paris Games due to the water quality.

World Aquatics announced on Tuesday it canceled the Olympic marathon swim test due to polluted conditions in the river. Victor Johansson from Sweden withdrew from the race ahead of time, citing concerns about the water conditions in the Seine.

Organizers for the Paris Games and World Aquatics said on Thursday the men's 10km would be able to go on as scheduled after determining the water quality was compliant.

Competing in his third straight Olympics, Rasovszky has now medaled twice. He won silver at the Tokyo Games, finishing second to Germany's Florian Wellbrock. The 27-year-old was the presumptive favorite coming into Paris after winning the World Championships in Qatar in February.

Since the 10km race was added to the Olympic rotation in 2008, this marks the first time that Hungary has won multiple medals. Rasovszky's silver three years ago was the country's first medal in this event.

Klemet's second-place finish gave Germany its fourth medal in men's 10km swimming since 2008. The only time the country failed to medal was in 2016.
