Cowboys' Jerry Jones Says No 'Urgency' on CeeDee Lamb Contract; WR Responds 'LOL'

Andrew PetersAug 9, 2024

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear on Thursday that he's in no rush to get star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb a new contract.

"I don't have any urgency to get it done," Jones said, per The Athletic's Jon Machota.

Lamb, who is currently holding out while awaiting a new contract, quickly responded to Jones on social media.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill Jr., Lamb's agent "has been in Paris at the Olympics for the last week and just got back."

Lamb also removed the phrase "America's Team" from his X bio and replaced it with "Eights."

While things have obviously stalled now, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in late July that the two sides are "getting closer" to a new contract. Unless Dallas and Lamb get something done before the regular season, he will be playing on the final year of his rookie deal and will earn $17.991 million.

Lamb is fresh off the best season of his career. He led the league with 135 receptions and had the second-most receiving yards (1,749) and the third-most touchdowns (12).

That season clearly warrants a big payday for the Cowboys, but they have a lot to think about this season when it comes to paying players.

Along with Lamb, MVP-caliber quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract. He could be due for a historic new deal after quarterbacks like Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence got extensions worth more than $50 million per year this offseason.

Perhaps Prescott's looming contract is the reason why Jones isn't concerned about getting Lamb's deal done soon. But if the Cowboys don't make their star wide receiver happy, they could be without him this time next year.
