Caleb Williams Wasn't Happy with Matthew Stafford's NFL Top 100 Ranking: 'Top 2 QB'

Jack MurrayAug 8, 2024

Caleb Williams believes Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is underrated by his peers.

Stafford was ranked as the No. 42 player in the NFL by his peers in the NFL Network's Top 100 player rankings and Williams expressed his disagreement with that placement during an appearance on the Up and Adams Show on Thursday.

"I was not happy about his (NFL Top 100) ranking," Williams said. "I don't think I can name two quarterbacks that play the position better than Matthew Stafford."

Stafford was rated as the No. 11 quarterback per the survey. Williams said that the only quarterback he had ahead of Stafford was New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was ranked No. 92 on the list and was ranked as the No. 15 quarterback.

Rodgers' low ranking can be attributed to his season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2023 season. Stafford, however, put together a full 2023 and showed why he is still regarded so highly. He threw for 3,956 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2023 and helped lead Los Angeles back to a postseason berth.

While he is on the older side at 36-years-old, he still remains a formidable foe for NFC opponents. As a former No. 1 pick, he also serves as an excellent role model for Williams.

Williams is entering his rookie season after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Chicago Bears. He will hope to stabilize the quarterback position and help the team take a step forward in a strong NFC North.

He will get a chance to face off against Stafford in his rookie season, as Chicago is heading to Los Angeles on Sept. 29.
