Oklahoma CFB Unveils Throwback Uniforms in Photos, Video; Will Be Worn vs. Houston

The Oklahoma Sooners are embarking on a new era as they transition to the SEC this year, but they will also be honoring the past in a special way.

On Thursday, Oklahoma unveiled its throwback uniforms for the upcoming season in social media photos and a video. The uniforms will make their debut during the Sooners' Sept. 7 home game against the Houston Cougars.

According to a press release, the throwback uniforms will honor the Oklahoma teams from 1946-56. The Sooners posted a combined record of 102-11-3, won three national championships (1950, 1955 and 1956) and won a conference title each year over those 11 seasons. The team was led by College Football Hall of Famer Bud Wilkinson for most of that stretch after he took over as head coach in 1947.

"The ensemble features crimson jerseys with white numerals, white tri-stripes on the shoulder sleeves and SEC and Jordan Brand patches," the press release stated. "The uniform also includes crimson striping on the sides of the white pants and on the top of logo-free white helmet."

The Sooners will have their work cut out for them in their first season in the SEC. In a preseason poll voted on by the media, Oklahoma was picked to finish eighth in the conference.
