Jets' Sauce Gardner Hypes Jayden Daniels, Says Commanders QB Will 'Be Real Good'

Sauce Gardner has come out of a joint practice between the New York Jets and Washington Commanders very impressed with Jayden Daniels.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gardner said he told Daniels directly "you're going to be real good."

The Commanders traveled to Florham Park for a joint practice with the Jets ahead of their preseason matchup on Saturday.

Even though Gardner came away impressed with Daniels' talent, the Jets' stingy defense didn't give the rookie quarterback a of room to work. Lynnell Willingham of 106.7 The Fan tracked Daniels as going 7-of-15 with all of his completions coming on check-downs and screens.

It should also be noted that weather conditions for practice weren't great with rain in the area.

Daniels will get another opportunity to make a strong impression in a game setting. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters on Tuesday that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will start against the Jets in the preseason opener.

Quinn explained Daniels wasn't being given the start because of his draft position, but because "he's earned that right" with his performance throughout the spring and so far in training camp.

Daniels has yet to play an official snap in the NFL, but he's already got some high-profile fans within the league.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk previously said he would like to reunite with Daniels, who was his teammate at Arizona State in 2019, if he didn't return to the Niners.

Gardner is arguably the best cornerback in the NFL with back-to-back All-Pro first-team selections in his first two seasons.

Daniels came out of nowhere to win the Heisman last year at LSU. The fifth-year senior threw for 3,812 yards, ran for 1,134 yards and accounted for 50 touchdowns in 12 games.

The Commanders bet big on Daniels being able to carry that talent into the NFL. He was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft.

Daniels will lead Washington's offense against the Jets into Saturday's preseason contest at MetLife Stadium at 12 p.m. ET.
