Cowboys Rumors: Dak Prescott's Contract Value Could Hit $70M per Year with 'Patience'

Dak Prescott could cash in for quite the pay raise if he plays the long game.

Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports spoke to an NFL insider who said Prescott could receive a contract with a $70 million average annual value if he displays "patience" with his contract situation.

Prescott is currently set to have a cap hit of $55 million in 2024 and is entering the final year of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys. He would be eligible for unrestricted free agency following the 2024 NFL season if he does not agree to terms on an extension with Dallas.

If Prescott were to sign a deal for $70 million per season, it would shatter the current mark for quarterbacks. Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love currently own the highest-paid title at $55 million per season.

The $70 million figure has never been reached in the NFL but has been reached in MLB and will be in the NBA. Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year deal with an average value of $70 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season, and Jayson Tatum's extension with the Boston Celtics will see him earn $71.4 million in 2029-30.

Prescott owns a 73-41 regular season record and has thrown for 29,459 yards and 202 touchdowns during his eight-season career. He is also a three-time Pro Bowler.

Still, he has not led the Cowboys to significant postseason success, and an exorbitant cap hit for the 31-year-old would make it difficult for Dallas to retain a strong core around him.
